An Armenian serviceman was found dead in the town of Vardenis while performing combat duty. According to available information, the soldier was on active guard duty and was located in a trench at the time of the incident.
The serviceman had been serving in the army for approximately six months and was conscripted during the summer of 2025. Law enforcement authorities are currently working at the scene.
He has been described by those familiar with his service as an active, energetic, and disciplined soldier who had no known conflicts during his time in the military. Investigators are examining several possible scenarios, including accidental handling of a weapon, self-inflicted injury, and other circumstances. At this stage, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear.
Earlier, on January 14 at around 9:50 a.m., the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Armenia confirmed that the body of serviceman Vahan Khachaturi Petrosyan from a Defense Ministry military unit was discovered with a gunshot wound.
An official investigation is underway to fully determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
