Armenia Updates University Admission Rules and Procedures

The Armenian government has approved amendments to the university admission procedures for bachelor’s, continuous, and integrated educational programs.

The decision, revising the 2012 regulation (No. 597-N), was adopted during the April 18 government session. The updates aim to align admissions with new educational standards and curriculum reforms.

Key Changes

Support for Applicants with Special Needs
Applicants requiring special conditions must apply to the assessment center within 10 days after registration deadlines, submitting medical documentation. Reasonable accommodations may include:

Alternative communication methods
Assistive technologies
Sign language interpreters

No Major Changes Until 2029–2030
Admissions for the 2026–2029 academic years will continue under the existing system (Araratian Baccalaureate exams).
Starting from 2029–2030, universities will independently organize admission competitions under the new law.

Replacement of “Question Banks”
The concept of “question banks” is removed. Exams will instead be based on:

Approved subject curricula
Official school textbooks
Other educational materials relevant to the learning process

Application Deadline Adjustment
During the first admission phase (December 15–25), applicants can modify or withdraw their application until December 25.

Broader Context

These reforms are part of Armenia’s long-term education strategy, including the 2030 education development plan and the 2050 transformation strategy, aimed at modernizing higher education and admission systems.

Note:

Additional technical adjustments have also been introduced to improve the overall admission process.
