Bus Driver Stabbed in Yerevan During Work

TESANYUT

Late on April 20, a serious incident occurred on Halabyan Street in Yerevan involving a public transport driver.

According to preliminary reports, a passenger attacked the driver of bus route No. 8 with a knife while the driver was performing his duties. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia stated that the suspect was allegedly in an intoxicated state and got into an argument with the driver before carrying out the attack.

Authorities have launched an investigation, and measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case. Officials have not yet confirmed whether the suspect has been detained.

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has initiated criminal proceedings under articles related to hooliganism and causing moderate harm to health.

Context

Incidents involving disputes between passengers and drivers have been increasingly reported. Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan recently noted that drivers are sometimes targeted when they enforce fare payment, leading to conflicts and, in some cases, violence.

Note:

Further official updates are expected as the investigation continues.
