Certain dietary habits may contribute to the formation of kidney stones, according to urologist-oncologist Vigen Malkhasyan.
In an interview with aif.ru, the specialist explained that kidney stones most commonly form from calcium oxalate. An increased concentration of oxalates in the body can promote the development of crystals, which gradually grow and turn into stones.
Diet plays a significant role in this process. High salt intake, excessive consumption of animal protein, and foods rich in oxalates may increase the risk. Among such foods are dark chocolate, green peppers, beets, figs, raspberries, nuts, and buckwheat.
However, the expert emphasized that there is no need to completely eliminate these foods. Reducing their intake is recommended mainly in cases where laboratory tests indicate elevated oxalate levels.
