Government of Armenia has approved changes to the list of medical conditions used to determine a citizen’s or servicemember’s fitness for military service, according to information published in the agenda of today’s government session.
The amendments concern the medical standards and health conditions that define eligibility and restrictions for military service under the government’s April 12, 2018 decision No. 404-N.
According to the draft proposal, some former servicemembers who were previously declared unfit for military service after mine explosions or gunshot injuries may now have the opportunity to reapply for contractual military service after recovery and partial restoration of functionality.
Officials explained that the current regulations do not allow certain individuals with serious functional impairments to return to service, even in cases where mobility has later improved through rehabilitation, prosthetics, crutches, or wheelchairs.
The proposed amendments would introduce new definitions allowing medical commissions to issue “fit with limitations” conclusions in certain cases. As a result, some citizens with injuries or functional impairments could become eligible to serve under contractual military service conditions.
The government says the changes are intended to expand opportunities for recovered servicemembers while taking into account their medical condition and physical capabilities.
