Moscow and Nairobi are discussing an increase in labor migration quotas for Kenyan citizens, according to the Russian Embassy in Kenya.
The embassy told Izvestia that expanding the quotas could serve the interests of both countries, as Russia needs workers in several sectors while Kenya is interested in creating organized employment opportunities for its citizens abroad.
“We are discussing increasing quotas for Kenyan citizens, which is in the interests of both sides: we need labor in a number of sectors, while Kenya is interested in organized employment for its citizens abroad,” the embassy said.
The two countries are also preparing an intergovernmental agreement on labor migration, an initiative reportedly proposed by Nairobi.
According to Russian diplomats, the agreement is intended to make the process more transparent by establishing clear rules for selecting workers and defining their employment rights and social guarantees.
The embassy noted that Kenyan citizens can already work in Russia under existing regulations. However, a separate bilateral agreement could simplify and better organize the recruitment and employment process.
