Yerevan Students to Have a Two-Week Autumn Break Due to COP17

Students in Yerevan will have a two-week autumn break from October 19 to October 30 due to the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Armenia this autumn.

During one week of the international event, regular classes will not be organized in schools across the Armenian capital. As a result, the academic schedule has been adjusted to accommodate the temporary suspension of classes.

According to a spokesperson for Armenia’s Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, students will therefore be on autumn vacation throughout the October 19–30 period.

The change does not apply to first-grade students, as their academic calendar had already included a two-week autumn break. Their vacation schedule therefore does not require the same adjustment.

To compensate for the additional days without classes, schools in Yerevan will temporarily move to a six-day school week starting September 15.

For five consecutive weeks, educational institutions in the capital will also hold classes on Saturdays. This arrangement is intended to maintain the required number of instructional days despite the extended autumn break associated with COP17.

The temporary schedule means that most Yerevan students will attend school six days a week for five weeks before beginning their two-week autumn vacation on October 19.
