Fan-favorite American Idol hopeful Breanna Nix delivered another unforgettable performance during the April 13 episode, singing a heartfelt Christian worship song against the stunning backdrop of Hawaii.
Breanna first won audiences over during her Season 23 audition, where she was joined by her husband, Austin, and their adorable son, Emerson. Austin accompanied her on piano while little Emerson cozied up with judge Carrie Underwood — eventually dozing off as his mom performed a moving rendition of Carrie’s hit, “Jesus, Take the Wheel.” The touching scene brought Carrie to tears.
With unanimous “yes” votes, Breanna secured her Golden Ticket to Hollywood. She continued to impress during the showstopper round with a stunning cover of Kelly Clarkson that gave Luke Bryan “full body chills.”
For the duet round, Breanna joined forces with IAMKNOWN to perform Brandon Lake’s worship anthem “Gratitude.” The powerful performance visibly moved the judges, especially Carrie, who praised the duo for staying true to their faith in such a public setting.
“Young ladies — Riley, Breanna — I just want to say how courageous it is to walk into this industry with your faith front and center,” said Underwood, herself a Christian artist. “It’s not easy. There will always be voices trying to steer you away from that path. But what you’re doing here is something to be proud of.”
Breanna’s heartfelt delivery helped her move forward to the Top 24. She and the other contestants headed to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Hawaii, for the next phase of the competition — where Breanna continued to turn the stage into a space of worship and inspiration.
