Armenia’s Law on State Benefits establishes financial assistance for families raising children under the age of two, with payment amounts depending on the parent’s employment and childcare leave status.
Under the current provisions, one parent, adoptive parent or legal guardian may qualify for the monthly childcare benefit if the child is at least 70 days old but has not yet turned two.
How Much Is the Monthly Childcare Benefit?
The amount depends on whether the parent is officially on childcare leave.
31,600 AMD per month for a parent who is not on childcare leave.
50% of the statutory minimum monthly wage for a parent who is on childcare leave.
The government determines the applicable benefit amounts within the framework established by law.
Special provisions also apply to parents registered and actually residing in rural communities.
An eligible rural parent on childcare leave may receive both components simultaneously, provided the parent has been continuously registered in a rural settlement for at least one year and the child is also registered in a rural settlement.
These conditions are assessed as of the first day of the payment month.
Who Qualifies for the Benefit?
To receive the allowance, the child must not be living in a social protection institution. Additional restrictions apply to children officially recognized as being without parental care, with an exception for eligible guardians.
Foreign nationals may also qualify if they meet the legal requirements and have been continuously registered at a residential address in Armenia for at least three years before the child’s birth.
If a parent cares for several children under the age of two, the benefit is assigned separately for each eligible child.
For employed parents taking childcare leave, eligibility is verified using official employment and social contribution records.
The legislation aims to provide financial support during early childhood while establishing different payment arrangements based on family circumstances and childcare leave status.
