Andrea Bocelli’s love story with his wife, Veronica Berti, is as moving as one of his arias — a romance that truly began with the sound of her voice.
The world-famous tenor opened up about the early days of his relationship with Veronica, who is not only his wife but also his manager. The two first crossed paths in 2002 at a mutual friend’s gathering, and although they didn’t marry until 2014, Bocelli says their relationship began the very night they met — they moved in together immediately.
Love That Began with a Voice
For Bocelli, who has been blind since childhood, it wasn’t Veronica’s appearance that first captivated him — it was the sound of her voice and the sensation of her hand in his. He was so moved that he sang for her that same evening, choosing “Occhi Di Fata” («Fairy’s Eyes») for the moment.
Veronica, sitting alone later that night, was invited to Bocelli’s table by a friend acting on his behalf. They spent hours in conversation, and when she stood to leave, Andrea urged her to stay, saying, “Don’t lose the energy. Don’t lose the moment. Love is something you don’t think about.” That spontaneous decision marked the beginning of their life together.

An Unconventional Start
At the time of their meeting, Andrea was 44 and Veronica only 18. The 25-year age gap didn’t faze him. In fact, Bocelli explained that such differences weren’t uncommon in his family — and even pointed to biblical examples.
He credits the strength of their bond to deep emotional and physical chemistry. “If there’s chemistry between two people, there is poetry, harmony, and love,” he shared. “Without it, there’s nothing.”

A Life of Music and Family
Music remains a central part of their connection. Beyond being life partners, Veronica has also taken on the role of managing Bocelli’s career — handling negotiations and helping shape his public and professional life.
In 2012, a decade after they first met, Andrea and Veronica welcomed their daughter Virginia. The family resides in Forte dei Marmi, a picturesque coastal town in Tuscany. Remarkably, Andrea maintains an amicable relationship with his ex-wife, Enrica Cenzatti, who lives nearby with their two sons, Amos and Matteo.
A Lasting Love
Andrea and Veronica officially tied the knot in 2014, exchanging vows at the Sanctuary of Montenero in Livorno, Italy. Now, after more than 18 years together, their love has stood the test of time.
Bocelli believes that real love is built not just on companionship, but also on passion. “If the bedroom door opens to something beautiful and exciting, love will endure,” he reflected. “If it opens to boredom, it won’t.”
From duets with his sons to quiet moments with Veronica, Bocelli’s world is steeped in love, family, and music. And perhaps one day, young Virginia will add her voice to this extraordinary legacy.
