According to a study conducted by scientists at the University of Exeter in the United Kingdom, shoulder or arm pain may, in some cases, be an early symptom of lung cancer. The findings were reported by the Daily Mail.
Researchers analyzed symptom data from approximately 65,000 patients diagnosed with lung cancer. They found that 3.6% of patients experienced shoulder or arm pain as one of the first noticeable signs of the disease.
The scientists emphasized that arm or shoulder pain is very common and is often caused by non-serious conditions, so there is no reason for immediate concern in most cases.
However, they noted that if the pain persists for a long period or is accompanied by other symptoms—such as a persistent cough or breathing difficulties—it may be advisable to consult a medical professional. People with a genetic predisposition to lung cancer were also encouraged to pay closer attention to such symptoms.
It is known that shoulder and arm pain can sometimes result from the growth of a tumor, which may place pressure on nearby nerves or tissues.
