In an interview with news.ru, doctor Natalya Zhovtan explained that dandruff may, in some cases, be a sign of psoriasis.
According to her, hormonal and metabolic disorders—such as those that can occur during pregnancy or while taking oral contraceptives—as well as viral illnesses, may contribute to the development of dandruff, especially when combined with improper hair care.
She also noted that dandruff can worsen in environments with excessively dry indoor air.
