The forecast for March 2026 is currently surrounded by uncertainty. Meteorologists are divided into two camps, each arguing their own scenario. Some predict an early spring with temperatures above zero, while others warn of snow accumulation and freezing nights. Some experts admit frankly: “We don’t really know what next month will bring.”
🌡️ Sharp Temperature Swings: Get Ready for a Weather Roller Coaster
The Hydrometeorological Center remains cautious but offers preliminary hints. Leading Russian meteorologist Marina Makarova says that March is likely to be warmer than average. Her colleague Tatyana Pozdnyakova agrees that a temperature anomaly is forming, but adds an important caveat: long-term forecasts are only 70–80% accurate. In other words, things may still deviate from the expected scenario.
One of the boldest forecasts comes from Evgeny Tishkovets of the Phobos Weather Center. According to him, the average temperature in March could be 3–4°C above normal. Sounds like a gift, doesn’t it?
But there is a catch.
🌊 The Risks of Rapid Warming
If the ground warms too quickly, the snow accumulated over winter may melt within just a few days. Water will then flow into areas where it is least expected. Basements, low-lying roads, and private houses near rivers may be at risk.
Imagine clearing snow from your yard one day, and the next day standing knee-deep in icy water. After cold winters, flooding becomes especially dangerous: the snowpack is dense and frozen, the ground cannot absorb moisture, and all this water rushes into low-lying areas.
❄️ Second Scenario: Winter Refuses to Let Go
Other meteorologists look at March without rose-colored glasses. They warn: don’t be fooled. Even if it gets warmer at the end of February and streams start flowing, it doesn’t mean spring has truly arrived.
Until mid-April, we may experience the classic March pattern: above-zero temperatures during the day with puddles and slushy snow, followed by freezing temperatures at night that turn everything into ice. In the morning, sidewalks can turn into skating rinks. Pedestrians slip, drivers struggle with traction, and коммунальные службы scatter sand everywhere — yet it never seems enough.
And of course, March is famous for mixed precipitation: rain, snow, sleet — sometimes all within the same day. Not winter, not spring, but complete confusion.
🔍 What Forecasters Really Agree On
If we put all forecasts together, the overall picture looks like this:
Temperatures will fluctuate sharply: plus degrees may turn into minus within hours.
Snow will melt, then fall again. Keep your shovels handy.
Flood risk will remain high and depends on how fast warming occurs.
Long-term forecasts carry significant uncertainty. No one can guarantee 100% accuracy.
🧥 What to Prepare for Right Now
If you live in a private house, take care of drainage in advance. Clear gutters and check where meltwater will flow. If you live in an apartment, accept one thing: March will be unpredictable.
Have you put away your good waterproof shoes? Take them back out. A rain jacket will come in handy. And keep a warm hat — nights may still be cold, even if the sun is shining during the day.
And most importantly: don’t trust forecasts 100%. Even meteorologists admit their predictions are probabilities, not certainties. March 2026 may still surprise everyone in ways no supercomputer can fully predict.
