Vladimir Putin stated that Armenia should decide as soon as possible whether it plans to join the European Union or remain within the Eurasian Economic Union, according to RIA Novosti.
Speaking at a press conference, Putin said Russia is calling on Armenia to make a timely decision regarding its future direction. He noted that Russia, as Armenia’s main economic partner, considers clarity on the issue important.
According to the Russian president, depending on Armenia’s choice, Russia would draw the necessary conclusions and pursue what he described as a “soft, smart, and mutually beneficial separation” if needed.
The comments come amid continued discussions about Armenia’s economic and political ties with both the European Union and the Eurasian Economic Union.
