The Armenian Apostolic Church will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God on Sunday, August 16. Also known as the Blessing of the Grapes feast, it is one of the five major feast days of the Armenian Church and the oldest feast dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
As part of the tradition, grapes are blessed during church services before the new harvest is shared with family and friends.
The day following the feast is observed as a Day of Remembrance for the Departed. While it is recognized as a memorial day by the Church, it is not a public holiday or an official non-working day.
There are no other major feast days or church remembrance days scheduled during the remainder of August.
