High Fire Risk and Thunderstorms Forecast Across Armenia This Weekend

Armenia’s weather service has issued a warning of high fire danger and unstable weather conditions expected across much of the country between August 8 and August 11.

High Fire Risk

A high-level fire hazard is forecast for August 8–10 in:

Ararat Valley
Yerevan
Shirak Province
Foothill areas of Aragatsotn, Kotayk, and Vayots Dzor
Valley regions of Syunik

Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution with open flames and activities that could spark wildfires.

Yerevan Forecast
August 8: Dry weather is expected.
Evening of August 9: Short-lived showers and thunderstorms are forecast.
August 10–11: Rain and thunderstorms are expected during the night and again in the evening.
During thunderstorms, wind gusts may reach 18–23 m/s.
From August 8–11, evening winds are expected to strengthen to 15–18 m/s.
Nationwide Forecast
August 8: No precipitation is expected.
Evening of August 9 and on August 10–11: Most regions are expected to experience short-term rain and thunderstorms.
In some areas, rainfall may become heavy, and hail is possible.

Winds will generally be from the northeast and east at 4–7 m/s, with gusts reaching 20–25 m/s during thunderstorms.

Additionally, from August 8–11, evening wind speeds are expected to increase to 17–20 m/s in:

Armavir Province
Foothill areas of Aragatsotn and Kotayk
Parts of Shirak Province

According to the forecast, air temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged throughout the period.
