Criminal Proceedings Launched Over Serviceman’s Death

Armenia’s Investigative Committee has announced that criminal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the death of a serviceman.

According to the Investigative Committee, the necessary investigative and procedural actions are currently being carried out to establish the circumstances surrounding the case.

The committee’s statement did not specify under which article of Armenia’s Criminal Code the criminal proceedings were initiated.

As previously reported, on August 13, the body of serviceman Grigor Edgar Zakaryan, who served in a military unit of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense, was found with a gunshot wound.

The Ministry of Defense had earlier stated that an investigation was underway to fully clarify the circumstances of the serviceman’s death.

According to information reported by the Armenian newspaper Hraparak, the incident occurred at a military unit in Meghri, Syunik Province. The outlet also reported that Zakaryan was a conscript serviceman.

These details regarding the location and his service status were reported by Hraparak and were not included in the Investigative Committee’s statement.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the relevant authorities are carrying out investigative and procedural measures to determine the circumstances of the case.
