New details have emerged regarding the death of serviceman Grigor Edgar Zakaryan, whose body was found with a gunshot wound at an Armenian military unit on August 13.
According to information reported by ArmLur.am, the incident occurred at a military unit in Armenia’s Syunik Province. The outlet reports that law enforcement authorities established that Zakaryan had allegedly been found sleeping while on duty at a military position on several occasions.
According to the media report, the issue reportedly led to disagreements among servicemen, during which insults were allegedly directed at Zakaryan. ArmLur.am claims that tensions between the conscript servicemen subsequently intensified.

The Investigative Committee has since confirmed an important development in the case. According to the committee’s spokesperson, one person has been formally prosecuted and detained as part of the investigation. The criminal prosecution was initiated under Article 522, Part 2, Points 2 and 3 of Armenia’s Criminal Code, concerning negligently causing a serviceman to take their own life.
The Ministry of Defense had previously announced that Zakaryan’s body was discovered on August 13 with a gunshot wound and that an investigation was underway to establish all circumstances surrounding his death.
The Investigative Committee initially announced that criminal proceedings had been opened and that necessary investigative and procedural actions were being conducted.
