Eight Killed in Charter Plane Crash in Alaska

A charter plane carrying eight people crashed in a remote area of western Alaska, killing everyone on board, U.S. authorities have confirmed.

The twin-engine Cessna 441, operated by Security Aviation, had departed from Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport and was heading to the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site Airport, about 450 miles west of Anchorage. There were two pilots and six passengers aboard.

The aircraft crashed while approaching the remote radar facility. According to investigators, weather conditions in the area included heavy fog, and the plane had already made a missed approach before apparently attempting another landing.

Authorities later confirmed that all eight people aboard were killed. Two of the victims were employees of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers who were traveling to the site as part of a project team supporting the U.S. Air Force.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the accident. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined.
