Putri Ariani, a remarkable teenage singer from Indonesia, left a lasting impression on the America’s Got Talent stage. At just 17 years old, Putri—who was born blind—continues to inspire others with her extraordinary talent and determination to pursue her dreams.
“My biggest challenge is that people often see me only as a blind person, not as a musician,” Putri shared. “But when I sing, I feel like a superstar.”
During her first trip to America, Putri shared her ambitions with judge Sofia Vergara and the audience. “My dream is to become the biggest diva in the world, like Whitney Houston, and to win a Grammy Award,” she declared. “I hope winning America’s Got Talent will help me achieve that dream.”
Putri, originally from Riau province in Indonesia, was born prematurely in December 2005 due to complications her mother experienced during pregnancy. Diagnosed as blind at just three months old, she has never let her disability define her or limit her aspirations.
Accompanied by her parents, who watched proudly backstage with host Terry Crews, Putri took her place at the piano and delivered a stunning original ballad titled “Loneliness.” Her performance showcased not only her incredible vocal control and maturity but also her ability to infuse each note with heartfelt emotion. The audience erupted in cheers, giving her a well-deserved standing ovation.
Judge Simon Cowell was so impressed that he left his seat to personally introduce himself to Putri onstage. Her father soon joined them, creating a touching moment of connection. At Cowell’s request, Putri performed a second song, Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word by Elton John and Bernie Taupin, dedicating it to the esteemed judge.
Putri’s journey, from her beginnings in Riau to wowing audiences in America, is a testament to her resilience and talent. She continues to melt hearts and inspire fans worldwide, proving that dreams truly have no limits.
