Her daughter entered them into the competition without her knowledge.
It became one of the most memorable auditions in Britain’s Got Talent history. The mother-daughter duo, 14-year-old Honey and her 43-year-old mom, Sammy, who was also celebrating her birthday on stage, moved the judges and audience with their heartfelt story and remarkable voices. It’s a moment that will stay etched in the minds of viewers for years to come.
During the pre-audition chat, Simon Cowell began with, “I’m always curious when mums and daughters perform together. Whose idea was this?”
Honey responded, “Mine. I applied without telling her.”
Simon followed up, “Why did you feel it was important to do this with your mum?”
The 14-year-old bravely explained, “In the past couple of years, my mum received a diagnosis. It’s been a tough time, and being here with her is the best thing that’s ever happened to me. I never imagined that singing in the car with my mum would bring us here.”
Holding back tears, Honey’s words set the emotional tone for their audition.
The duo began their performance, already emotional themselves as the audience watched intently. However, Simon soon stopped them.
“I’m not a fan of the song choice,” he said, “but your voices work beautifully together.”
Honey and Sammy stood hand in hand as Simon suggested, “I feel this needs to be one of those big moments. How would you feel about coming back later today with a different song?”
The audience erupted into applause, supporting his decision.
The pair went backstage and returned just 15 minutes later, surprising even Simon.
Sammy revealed they had chosen a new song—one deeply meaningful to her as a mother, a choice she felt many moms would resonate with. Originally performing “She Used to Be Mine” by Sara Bareilles, they returned with “Lost Without You” by Freya Ridings.
Despite the short time to prepare, Sammy still had the lyrics written on her hand, but it didn’t matter.
Their voices blended perfectly as they delivered an emotionally charged performance. The judges were visibly moved, and the audience hung on to every word, as if the song told the story of their journey.
Simon summed it up perfectly: “Good for you. After everything you’ve been through, you deserve this moment. I’m going to remember this audition for a very long time.”
David added, “I can’t imagine how difficult things have been for you both, but you’ve turned it into something truly special. Well done, ladies.”
Alesha shared her thoughts through tears, “I love the bond you share. There’s nothing more beautiful than a mother-daughter relationship. Congratulations, you’ve done it.”
Finally, Amanda, also emotional, said, “Every lyric felt so poignant and connected to your story. It was an honor to witness.”
Without hesitation, Amanda hit the golden buzzer, showering the stage with gold confetti as the audience erupted in cheers.
That day was filled with hugs, tears, and unforgettable memories as Honey and Sammy celebrated their incredible moment together.
