The upcoming season of American Idol marks a milestone, celebrating its 700th episode with returning host Ryan Seacrest and judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan, and new addition Carrie Underwood.
For Carrie, this season brings a new experience—watching contestants perform her own songs. One such hopeful is 25-year-old Breanna Nix from Denton, Texas, who chooses to audition with Jesus, Take the Wheel.
But Breanna doesn’t take the stage alone. She’s joined by her husband, Austin, who accompanies her on the piano, and their toddler son, Emerson. With Austin occupied at the keys, Breanna asks Carrie if she can hold Emerson during the performance. The country superstar warmly embraces the moment, cradling the little one in her lap as Breanna begins to sing.
Before her performance, Breanna shares a heartfelt story about a life-changing journey sparked by motherhood.
A Journey of Transformation
“Emerson was a blessing I never knew I needed,” she shares. “I struggled with my weight my entire life, always being the bigger girl. After giving birth, I weighed 315 pounds. Looking at my son in the delivery room, I realized that if I wanted to be the best mom possible, I needed to make a change. That decision led me on a journey of self-love.
Now, I’m here today because I want Emerson to see that anything is possible. I want him to know that his mom went after her dreams, and one day, he can too.”
An Emotional Moment for Carrie Underwood
As Breanna delivers a heartfelt and powerful rendition of Jesus, Take the Wheel, Carrie is visibly moved, her eyes welling with tears. But just as emotions peak, the video cuts off—leaving viewers wondering whether Breanna earned a Golden Ticket to Hollywood.
To find out her fate, tune in to American Idol on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC, with next-day streaming available on Hulu.
