His comment came in response to a recent exclusive by DailyMail+ royal columnist Richard Eden, who revealed that King Charles may extend a discreet offer to Trump: a proposal for the United States to become an «associate member» of the Commonwealth.
The Commonwealth is one of the oldest global political networks, comprising 56 nations—most of which are former British colonies—united by the English language and shared cultural history. With a combined population exceeding 2.7 billion, the organization continues to serve as a platform for diplomacy, unity, and cooperation. King Charles III currently serves as its symbolic leader.
If the move goes forward, it would represent a significant strengthening of the enduring «special relationship» between the UK and the US.
Despite Trump’s departure from the Oval Office, his rapport with King Charles has remained intact, with the two reportedly exchanging letters regularly.
British officials are said to be reviving the plan to offer associate membership to the US, hoping King Charles will present the idea personally when Trump and the First Lady make a formal state visit to the UK later this year.
“President Trump has always held Britain in high regard and deeply respects the Royal Family,” said a source close to the matter. “We believe he would recognize the strategic advantages of this partnership. Associate membership could be a stepping stone toward full membership—something that could elevate the Commonwealth’s role on the global stage.”
The source went on to praise the King as a “natural peacemaker,” emphasizing the value of the Commonwealth in resolving international tensions.
Trump, in his usual expressive tone, referred to King Charles as a “beautiful man.”
