My mother-in-law was visiting, and after she left, the dog started growling and scratching the ground: I began digging where the dog was barking and found something terrible 😱😱
My husband and I live in a quiet village. He works on the farm; I tend the garden and the household. My mother-in-law lives in the city with her younger son — and honestly, we’ve never gotten along. From the very first day, she didn’t accept me: always judgmental glances, sarcastic comments. But I endured it for my husband’s sake. And since she lived far away, we didn’t see each other often.
But recently, she suddenly announced she wanted to “take a break from the city bustle” and came to stay with us for a week. She said she missed us. I knew this wouldn’t lead to anything good, but my husband insisted.
From the first days, she started criticizing everything. The soup was too salty, the curtains weren’t ironed, and apparently, I was raising our five-year-old daughter all wrong. She constantly provoked arguments and even managed to cause friction between my husband and me. I broke down in tears at night, just wishing for it all to end soon.
When she finally left, I breathed a sigh of relief. But the next day, something strange started happening.
Our dog, Baks — usually the kindest and smartest dog — suddenly became aggressive. He growled at the empty garden, ran in circles, then began scratching at the ground near one of the garden beds, barking and digging frantically. I tried to pull him away — he wouldn’t listen. He just kept looking at me and continued his strange behavior.
The next day, he did the same. I couldn’t stand it anymore — I grabbed a shovel. My heart was pounding: surely the dog wouldn’t dig and growl for no reason. Something was scaring him. I started digging where he was barking.
Suddenly, the ground caved in. I froze. Sticking out of the earth was… 😱😱 Continuation 👇👇
A black bag. Tightly tied. My heart racing, I pulled it out.
Inside — a terrible smell and strange items: clumps of hair, an old child’s dress (not my daughter’s!), a doll with its head broken off, and — most chilling — a bundle of photographs of me, my husband, and our daughter… with the eyes scratched out.
A cold chill ran through me. I realized this was something witchcraft-related, possibly a curse. Who could have done this?
Only one answer — my mother-in-law. She was the only one in our yard; only she could have buried this while I was cooking in the kitchen or taking care of our child.
I didn’t know what to do. I took what I found to the church. The priest said it was “a curse to destroy a family.”
I don’t believe in such things, but everything — the dog’s behavior, everything my mother-in-law said and did during her visit — all pointed to a chilling picture.
Since then, I have forbidden her from setting foot in our home. I told my husband everything. At first, he didn’t believe me, but then he saw the photos and the bag I kept as proof. He was silent for a long time.
And ever since, the dog sleeps only at the door, as if guarding us.
I don’t know what exactly my mother-in-law intended to do, but I’m sure of one thing: she will never cross our threshold again.
What do you think? Am I overreacting? Could it be something else?
