Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law significantly increasing several state fees related to migration procedures, including the fee for applying for Russian citizenship.
Under the new legislation, the citizenship application fee will increase from 4,200 rubles to 50,000 rubles. Russian authorities say the measure is intended to improve migration administration and streamline related procedures.
Commenting on the possible impact on Armenian citizens, economist Suren Parsyan said it is too early to determine how the new rules will apply because Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).
According to Parsyan, it remains possible that EAEU citizens could be subject to different regulations or preferential rates, while the higher fees may primarily apply to applicants from non-member countries. He noted that further legal clarification is needed before drawing conclusions.
The economist also said there is currently no confirmed information indicating how the changes will affect Armenian applicants, adding that the final implementation will depend on the detailed legal framework.
