Vardavar, also known in the Armenian Apostolic Church as the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ, will be celebrated this year on July 12.
The feast is observed 98 days (14 weeks) after Easter and combines ancient Armenian traditions with Christian religious observance.
The day following Vardavar, July 13, is Remembrance Day of the Departed (Merelots). On this day, churches hold Divine Liturgies and memorial services, after which many families visit the graves of their deceased relatives.
Although the government has the authority to declare a working day a public holiday or move it to another date, no such decision has been adopted this year. Therefore, Monday, July 13, will remain a regular working day.
