An unusual incident involving a 17-year-old student was reported in Yerevan’s Davtashen district on September 11.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, officers from the Davtashen Community Police Department received information that a student at one of the district’s schools might be carrying suspicious items.
Police identified the student as a 17-year-old girl and invited her to the Davtashen police station accompanied by a parent.
During a search, officers reportedly found a lighter, an unopened pack of cigarettes with Georgian-language labeling, an electronic cigarette and a zip-lock bag containing 0.31 grams of a white powder-like substance.
According to the report, the teenager stated that the substance was powder from a medication called “Lamal.” The student reportedly told her parent, who then informed law enforcement officers, that the medication had been purchased from a pharmacy in Davtashen.
Documents concerning the incident were prepared by the Davtashen police and forwarded to the Ajapnyak and Davtashen Investigation Division of the Yerevan Investigation Department of Armenia’s Investigative Committee.
The nature of the powder and the circumstances surrounding the incident are subject to further examination. The reported discovery of a suspicious substance does not by itself establish that it was an illegal drug or that an offense was committed.
