Azerbaijan Asks Armenia to Provide DNA Samples to Identify Remains Believed to Belong to Armenian Servicemen

Azerbaijan has proposed that Armenia provide additional DNA samples to help identify human remains believed to belong to Armenian servicemen, according to Azerbaijani news agency APA.

The statement was made by Ali Naghiyev, head of Azerbaijan’s State Security Service and chairman of the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages and Missing Persons, during the Fourth International Conference held in Baku as part of the Baku Dialogue on Missing Persons.

Naghiyev said Azerbaijan had proposed providing relevant DNA samples for comparison with remains discovered in territories now under Azerbaijani control that are believed to belong to Armenian servicemen.

According to the Azerbaijani official, forensic examinations found no matches between the DNA profiles of 50 ethnic Armenians reported missing and the remains examined. He said Armenia had provided those DNA profiles in January 2026.

Naghiyev also stated that the Azerbaijani side is prepared to cooperate to clarify the fate of missing persons from both sides.

The information concerning the DNA comparisons and the circumstances in which the remains were discovered is based on statements by Azerbaijani officials. No corresponding statement from Armenian authorities was included in the report.
