Keris Riebel, a 22-year-old newlywed who worked at a Dollar Tree store in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, was tragically killed by a man wielding a machete.
The incident reportedly occurred around 4:25 p.m. at the store located at 1120 Wyandot Avenue.
Keris Riebel was declared dead when police officers and an ambulance arrived at the scene.
The alleged murderer was found and taken into custody in the 100 block of South Fifth Street, near the Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office. The suspect was later identified as 27-year-old Bethel Bekele and was charged with murder.
It remains unclear whether the victim and the suspect were acquainted prior to the incident or if she was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
The community is mourning the loss of the young woman who had recently married the love of her life.
To assist with funeral expenses during this difficult time for the family and Riebel’s husband, who has taken time off work to grieve, the victim’s aunt initiated a GoFundMe campaign.
Keris Riebel, who held a degree in human resources, had many plans for her future. She and her husband had just begun their life together, with dreams of having a pet and starting a family, but all of that was abruptly taken away.
Wynford Local Schools, where Riebel graduated in 2019, described her as having a «wonderful spirit with a faith-filled heart.» She was known for her happiness, excitement, and always-wearing smile. Truly unique.
«The death of such a brilliant and promising young woman is extremely tragic, and our hearts go out to her husband, family, and loved ones during this difficult time,» the GoFundMe campaign states.
May she rest in peace, and may justice be served with the perpetrator facing a lengthy prison sentence.
