Before Queen Elizabeth’s passing last year, she had a momentous encounter with the youngest members of her family, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, the children of Harry and Meghan, who typically reside at a distance. This unique family reunion took place during the queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebration in June, commemorating her remarkable 70-year reign.
Coincidentally, Princess Lilibet also marked her first birthday on June 4, and Queen Elizabeth reportedly extended her birthday wishes in person. However, the monarch, known for her discretion, preferred not to have her picture taken with the young princess during the celebration.
Amidst these family events, a former royal worker, Paul Burrell, Diana’s former butler, criticized Harry and Meghan. Burrell claimed that Queen Elizabeth had invited the Sussexes to her home to present Lilibet with a birthday cake. However, according to him, the couple opted for a different course of action.
The joyous announcement of Lilibet’s birth came on June 4, 2021, adding a new member to Harry and Meghan’s family. The Royal Family, as well as well-wishers worldwide, conveyed their congratulations. Prince William and Kate Middleton, via their official Instagram account, expressed delight at the arrival of baby Lili and extended their best wishes to the Sussex family.
Despite the celebratory atmosphere, challenges arose, and Lilibet finally had the chance to meet her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, and the rest of the royal family during the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations in London. The subdued visit marked Harry and Meghan’s return to the UK, the first public appearance since stepping back from the Royal Family in 2020.
Reportedly keeping a low profile, the couple attended selected events, including the Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Although it may seem they were hurrying from one place to another, sources suggest Harry and Meghan managed to have private time with the queen.
During Lilibet’s first birthday celebration, a backyard picnic at Frogmore Cottage, her parents arranged a cake by baker Claire Ptak, who also crafted their wedding cake in 2018. Despite the family’s happiness, Queen Elizabeth declined to be photographed with Lilibet, reportedly due to a bloodshot eye, emphasizing the private nature of the family meeting.
