Former UFC flyweight Geane Herrera tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident on Saturday in Tampa, Florida, according to various reports. He was 33 years old.
The accident happened around 10:45 p.m. when Herrera collided with the rear of another vehicle at a very high speed on Gandy Bridge, as reported by the Florida Dept. of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to TMZ.
Following the initial collision, Herrera hit a concrete barrier and was thrown from his motorcycle, according to the outlet.
Herrera was pronounced dead at the scene.
Herrera, who was approaching his 34th birthday, made his UFC debut on August 25, 2015, at UFC Fight Night 73 against Ray Borg.
He lost that fight by unanimous decision but secured a TKO victory over Joby Sanchez three months later.
Herrera lost his last two fights in the UFC before transitioning to Absolute Championship Berkut in 2018.
In 2021, he debuted in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship, winning by TKO against Abdiel Velazquez.
His family has set up a GoFundMe, and tributes have poured in on social media for the late MMA fighter.
