Shiloh, the daughter of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, has made headlines by announcing her intent to remove “Pitt” from her name via an advertisement in the L.A. Times. This move, part of the usual name change procedure, is designed to expedite the process. Soon, Shiloh will officially be known as Shiloh Jolie.
Just days after her 18th birthday, Shiloh filed a legal petition to drop «Pitt» and be recognized simply as Shiloh Jolie. TMZ reports that she submitted this request on Memorial Day, which also marked her birthday, adding a layer of personal significance to the timing.
While the name change is still pending, it is expected to be finalized soon. This decision comes amid ongoing reports of Brad Pitt’s strained relationship with his children following his 2016 divorce from Angelina Jolie. Custody battles and other disputes have persisted for years, impacting the family dynamics among their six children.
Shiloh, the biological daughter of both Brad and Angelina, isn’t the first to distance herself from the Pitt surname. Maddox and Zahara have also chosen not to use «Pitt» in their names. Recently, 15-year-old Vivienne was listed as Vivienne Jolie in a Broadway musical program she’s working on with Angelina. However, Shiloh is the only one to officially request a legal name change.
In an August 2022 article by People magazine, a source close to Brad Pitt shared that he has been working to mend his relationship with his children since the divorce. The source said, «Since Angelina filed for divorce, Brad has been dedicated to building the best possible relationship with his kids. It’s been a challenging process for him. There have been extended periods where he didn’t see the children at all.” The insider noted that the situation has remained difficult for a long time, underscoring the ongoing struggles within the family.
