Parents in Armenia will be able to receive 3,000 drams in social credit for school textbooks under the universal income declaration system, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan has announced.
According to the minister, parents of more than 300,000 children could benefit from the program. She also noted that textbooks for primary school students are provided entirely free of charge by the state.
Andreasyan said that for students in grades 5 and 6, the amount of social credit is now comparable to the textbook rental fee, meaning that parents can effectively recover the full cost.
She added that following changes to procurement procedures and competition policy, the average cost of textbooks has decreased by 26%, while textbook rental fees for other grades have fallen by more than 66%.
The minister urged parents to participate in the universal income declaration system, noting that it provides an opportunity to recover money paid for school textbooks.
