Officers from the Berd unit of the Tavush Regional Department of Armenia’s Eco-Patrol Service detected a ZIL truck in a forest area on September 10 while carrying out monitoring and preventive measures.
According to the service, eco-patrol officers used a drone to track the vehicle’s movement.
Officials reported that after the driver apparently noticed the presence of the officers, he began unloading the timber that was being transported in the truck.
The officers took measures to document the location of the timber and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
As a result of the actions taken by the Eco-Patrol Service, the alleged offender reportedly loaded the timber back onto the vehicle and transported it to the Berd unit of the Tavush Regional Department.
According to preliminary information, approximately 3 cubic meters of timber were discovered.
Authorities are currently working to establish the full circumstances of the incident, determine the origin of the timber and calculate the amount of any environmental damage caused.
