Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has again leveled accusations against Armenia while meeting with participants of international conferences being held in Baku.
Aliyev claimed that the Azerbaijani people had lived through “suffering” for 30 years and now live as a “victorious people in a victorious state.”
Referring to the Second Karabakh War, the Azerbaijani president claimed that Azerbaijani forces targeted only military formations and did not wage war against unarmed civilians. He contrasted this with allegations he made against Armenia. These statements represent Aliyev’s characterization of the conflict and allegations against Armenia.
Aliyev also recalled saying during the war that revenge should be taken “on the battlefield.”
The Azerbaijani president further accused Armenia of deliberately keeping animals, including pigs and cattle, inside mosques in territories formerly controlled by Armenian forces, describing this as an insult to Azerbaijanis and the wider Islamic world.
Aliyev also claimed that during nearly three decades of Armenian control, virtually nothing was built in Karabakh apart from private residences and mansions intended for Armenian officials.
According to him, Azerbaijan has significantly transformed approximately 15,000 square kilometers of territories it regained control over during the past four to five years.
The remarks were made as part of Aliyev’s broader assessment of the decades-long Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict and included a series of claims and accusations directed at Armenia.
