An unusual incident involving allegations of bullying and physical mistreatment of an 8-year-old student was reported to police in Yerevan on September 10.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, at around 12:40 PM, a 33-year-old Yerevan resident contacted the Nor Nork Police Department and alleged that his son, a third-grade student at a school in Yerevan’s Nor Nork administrative district, had repeatedly been bullied by the school psychologist and his class teacher.
The father reportedly told police that the two school employees had been attempting to isolate the child from his classmates and create circumstances that would force him to transfer to another school. He alleged that other students and their parents were also being turned against his son.
According to the father’s account, on the day of the reported incident, the psychologist allegedly grabbed the child by both arms, lifted him off the ground and then pushed him down, causing physical pain.
Shamshyan reported that police identified both the class teacher and the psychologist as 29-year-old women and were taking measures to locate them.
Documents concerning the reported incident were prepared by the Nor Nork Police Department and forwarded to the Avan and Nor Nork Investigative Division of the Yerevan Investigative Department of Armenia’s Investigative Committee.
