Minor Geomagnetic Storms Possible on October 4–5

Fluctuations in Earth’s magnetic field and periods of minor G1-class geomagnetic storm conditions may occur in the coming days.

According to current forecasts, a high-speed solar wind stream from a coronal hole could reach Earth around October 4, leading to a gradual increase in geomagnetic activity.

Periods of disturbed geomagnetic conditions are possible on October 4–5. At times, activity could reach the level of a minor geomagnetic storm, although conditions may fluctuate considerably throughout the day.

The influence of the high-speed solar wind stream could persist beyond this period, meaning an elevated likelihood of increased geomagnetic activity may continue.

Some people report fatigue, headaches or general weakness during periods of increased geomagnetic activity. However, these symptoms can have many different causes, and a direct causal link between minor geomagnetic storms and such health effects has not been conclusively established by scientific evidence.

Solar and geomagnetic forecasts are regularly updated as new observations become available. Predictions issued several days in advance can therefore change, while shorter-term forecasts are generally more reliable.
