Lake Howell High School student Dylan Charles had a bold idea: revive the “Hot Scots,” a once-legendary drumline from the ‘90s. With the help of his talented friends—Nigel Fernandez, Matt, Elias, and Jordan—he brought the concept back to life, crafting a performance that would leave audiences in awe.
“We just played some of our favorite drum corps excerpts and filled in the rest,” Dylan casually told Drumlines of America (DOA).
But what they delivered wasn’t just a performance—it was an experience.
A Show That Had It All
Dressed in traditional kilts, the Hot Scots took the stage with a routine that blended masterful drumming, razor-sharp choreography, and comedic flair. The audience was hooked from the very first beat.
Then came the surprises. At one point, the music stopped, and one of the drummers grabbed his sticks like a microphone, launching into an impromptu rendition of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley. The rest of the squad joined in, throwing the crowd an unexpected musical curveball before seamlessly transitioning back into their high-energy routine.
And just when it seemed they had pulled out all the stops, they turned their backs to the audience, lifted their kilts—only to reveal matching shorts underneath, leaving the crowd roaring with laughter.

Winning the school talent show was just the beginning. When Fernandez uploaded their now-iconic performance to YouTube on March 11, 2011, it spread like wildfire across the internet. More than a decade later, the clip still resurfaces, captivating new generations of viewers.
“This still feels fresh, alive, and absolutely incredible—even in 2022!” one fan commented.
