Weddings symbolize love and fresh beginnings, and for USMC Sgt. Joshua Newville and Senior Airman Emily Leehan, their big day turned into an unforgettable moment for everyone present.
Guests arrived expecting a beautiful ceremony and a lively reception, but what they didn’t anticipate was one of the most emotional moments they would ever witness. As part of the ceremony, Emily took a touching detour—reciting special vows not only to her groom but also to her 4-year-old stepson, Gage.
The little boy, already enamored with his soon-to-be stepmother, beamed with joy as his father exchanged vows. However, when Emily turned to him and began speaking from the heart, the room grew silent in awe.
Looking into Gage’s bright eyes, she softly expressed, “I want you to be safe, to always do your best, and to be kind.” Her words, filled with love and sincerity, carried so much emotion that they quickly became overwhelming for the young boy.
Tears welled up in Gage’s eyes as he threw his arms around Emily, clinging to her with all his might. The heartfelt moment stirred the entire room, bringing sniffles and murmurs of admiration from the guests.
Gently trying to soothe him, Emily whispered, “Don’t cry, sweetheart,” though her own voice wavered with emotion. She continued, “You are so intelligent, kind, and wonderful. I may not have given you life, but life gave me the incredible gift of you.”
There wasn’t a single dry eye as the two embraced, sealing a bond that would last a lifetime.
Though the newlyweds were overflowing with joy, their honeymoon had to wait, as duty called them back to Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. But no matter where life takes them, the memory of that heartfelt moment—especially the vows shared with Gage—will be cherished forever.
