It was a moment of pure country magic in 2021 when two of the genre’s biggest legends, Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, finally joined forces for a duet—something fans had been anticipating for decades.
Surprisingly, despite their storied careers and immense contributions to country music, the two hadn’t recorded a song together until they decided to collaborate on a fresh rendition of Does He Love You. The song, originally released in 1993 by McEntire and Linda Davis, tells the emotional story of two women—one a wife, the other a mistress—questioning where a man’s true love lies.
Penned by Sandy Knox and Billy Stritch, the timeless ballad took on new life with McEntire and Parton’s powerful vocals. Their version appeared on McEntire’s 2021 three-disc collection Revived Remixed Revisited and was an instant hit, landing in the Top 50 of Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart.
Dolly herself couldn’t contain her excitement about the collaboration. Speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live in July 2021, she said, “I have always wanted to sing with her, and I don’t know why we never did it until now. But we really sounded good together, and I think the fans are going to love it.”
McEntire echoed the sentiment, marveling at the fact that, despite years of mutual admiration and occasional stage appearances for each other, they had never recorded a duet before.
The pair didn’t just stop at the song—they also brought the track to life with a cinematic music video. Set in an intimate club, the video captures the two country queens seated at a table, each nursing a drink as they exchange knowing glances and heartfelt lyrics. By the climax, they take to the stage together, delivering an emotional finale that fans won’t soon forget.
For McEntire, the highlight of the experience was the chance to spend quality time with Parton off-camera. “My favorite part of shooting the video with Dolly was just getting to visit in between shots,” she shared. “Of course, singing with her was incredible, but just chatting like girlfriends was so much fun. I loved the little play-acting we got to do—starting out as rivals, but by the end, we were both like, ‘You can have him, I don’t want him!’”
So, could there be another collaboration on the horizon?
“We did talk about working on more things together, and I truly hope that happens,” McEntire revealed. “She’s a pro, she’s fun, she’s witty—I could listen to her talk all day long.”
Whether it’s another duet or something entirely new, fans are eagerly waiting to see what these two country powerhouses do next!
