Researchers Explain the Health Benefits of Apples

The well-known saying “An apple a day keeps the doctor away” has been examined and supported by scientific research.

Cardiologists from China conducted a study and found that regular apple consumption may reduce the risk of death from all causes among people with hypertension.

The findings were based on data collected from 2,480 middle-aged men and women. Researchers observed that participants who ate three to six apples per week had a 39% lower risk of mortality compared to those who consumed apples less than once a month.

Scientists note that apples are associated with several health benefits, including helping to lower cholesterol levels, supporting bone health, and improving cerebral circulation. These effects are attributed to the fruit’s natural components, such as pectin, flavonoids, quercetin, and boron.

The study results were published in the scientific journal Frontiers in Nutrition, which focuses on nutrition and health research.
