Scientists have identified three symptoms that are most commonly associated with the development of stage four cancer — a stage at which the disease is often considered incurable, LIVE24 reports.
Researchers analyzed medical data from approximately 8,000 patients across all stages of cancer in order to evaluate symptom patterns. The study showed that symptoms observed in patients with stage four cancer differ significantly from those seen in earlier stages.
According to the findings, only 1% of patients reported abnormal changes in moles, while up to 80% experienced swelling in the neck area. The researchers concluded that only three symptoms are strongly linked to a high likelihood of cancer progressing to stage four.
These symptoms include chest pain, swelling in the neck region, and back pain. In contrast, symptoms such as abnormal moles, breast lumps, postmenopausal bleeding, and rectal bleeding were associated with a much lower probability of being diagnosed at stage four.
To reduce the risk of developing cancer, scientists recommend maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This includes increasing the intake of fruits and vegetables, engaging in regular physical activity, maintaining a healthy body weight, and using sun protection. They also strongly advise avoiding alcohol consumption and smoking.
