Oncologist Yulia Shubina has listed types of cancer that can be passed down genetically. According to her, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, certain types of colorectal cancer, and medullary thyroid cancer may be inherited from parents to children.
“For example, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, a specific type of thyroid cancer (medullary cancer), and certain forms of colorectal cancer can be inherited,” Shubina was quoted as saying by FederalPress.
The specialist advises people whose parents have had these types of cancer to undergo appropriate medical screenings and closely monitor their health. In particular, she recommends that women be tested for genetic risks associated with breast and ovarian cancer.
Medullary thyroid cancer can be detected through a calcitonin hormone test, while potential intestinal pathologies can be identified through regular colonoscopy screenings, the doctor added.
