Early Warning Signs of Liver Disease May Affect the Brain

According to medical experts, the number of liver disease cases continues to rise steadily. When the liver becomes damaged, it may no longer perform its essential role as the body’s main filter. Instead of removing toxins, it can begin to accumulate them, leading to serious health consequences.

Scientists from the UK-based Liver Trust explain that this process may result in changes affecting the brain, including the development of hepatic encephalopathy. Symptoms such as forgetfulness and mild confusion may not always indicate neurological disorders but can serve as early warning signals from the liver.

Another possible early sign of liver damage is unusually sweet or musty-smelling breath. This symptom may appear in both chronic liver disease and acute liver failure.

Experts also highlight additional warning signs that should not be ignored, including:

trembling of the hands,

increased irritability,

seizures,

slurred or confused speech,

slowed reactions and movements.

It is also noted that impaired liver function can weaken the immune system, which may contribute to frequent viral respiratory infections and flare-ups of chronic conditions.

Note: These symptoms can be associated with various medical conditions. Only a qualified healthcare professional can provide an accurate diagnosis.
