Calm Geomagnetic Conditions Expected on February 12

According to data from the Space Research Institute (IKI) and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP RAS), Earth’s magnetosphere is expected to remain calm on February 12.

Over the next 24 hours, the planetary Kp index is forecast not to exceed 2 on the nine-point scale. This corresponds to the “green” level of geomagnetic activity and is not expected to significantly affect the well-being of weather-sensitive individuals or the operation of electrical and electronic systems.

The probability of geomagnetic storms on February 12 is estimated at around 7%, while the likelihood of minor geomagnetic disturbances is about 10%. As a result, the risk of significant fluctuations in Earth’s magnetic field remains low.

The Ap index is expected to remain near 5, and the F10.7 solar radio flux index is forecast at approximately 150. Experts assess that overall solar activity will remain moderate.
