Citizens of Armenia will be able to obtain new biometric passports and identification cards starting in the fall of 2026, Interior Minister Arpine Sargsyan announced during the ministry’s 2025 annual press conference.
According to the minister, Armenia will introduce a fully new biometric system for the first time, marking a major step in modernizing identity documents.
Citizens will be issued next-generation passports and ID cards. The final design of the new ID cards is currently in the approval phase. The final visual design has already been approved in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and the cards will soon be sent for mass production.
Sargsyan also noted that work is ongoing to finalize the design of the new biometric passports. The exterior appearance of the passports will be presented in the near future, after which the production process will begin.
The minister emphasized that old-format passports will not be automatically invalidated and will remain valid until their stated expiration dates.
