The Iranian Red Crescent has warned residents that explosions at oil storage facilities could lead to the formation of acid rain according to reports cited by media sources
Rescue officials explained that explosions at oil depots release large amounts of hydrocarbon compounds sulfur oxides and nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere When rainfall occurs under these conditions the precipitation may become highly acidic and potentially dangerous
Authorities say such rainfall may cause chemical burns to the skin and could seriously affect the lungs if people are exposed
For this reason the Iranian Red Crescent advises residents not to leave their homes during rainfall following oil depot explosions People who are already outdoors are advised to seek shelter under cover as quickly as possible
Emergency services also note that if raindrops come into contact with the skin the affected area should not be rubbed as this may allow chemical substances to penetrate deeper into the skin Instead the area should be rinsed thoroughly with clean water
