False Claim About Meghri Medical Center Closure Denied by Health Ministry

A claim circulating on social media about the alleged closure of the Meghri Medical Center has been officially denied by the spokesperson of Armenia’s Ministry of Health, Mariam Tsatryan.

In a Facebook post, Tsatryan described the statement—reportedly attributed to a member of Samvel Karapetyan’s political circle—as false, misleading, and disconnected from reality. The rumor suggested that the Meghri Medical Center would be shut down immediately after the elections, a claim she strongly rejected.

Instead, Tsatryan highlighted several ongoing and planned improvements in the healthcare sector, particularly in Meghri. According to her, a modern CT scanner will be installed at the Meghri Medical Center, and a new hemodialysis service will be introduced. Additionally, an upgraded emergency care service is expected to be implemented by May, and construction of a new morgue facility is currently underway. Most departments of the center have already been equipped with modern medical equipment.

She also noted that financial support for childbirth services in Meghri is provided at double the standard rate compared to other communities.

Beyond Meghri, the Ministry of Health has broader development plans. A new medical center is planned for Goris, while a regional medical facility in Sisian is expected to open soon. In Kapan, the local polyclinic is undergoing renovation, and the medical center has already been equipped with a new CT scanner, with a mammography unit expected in the near future.

Tsatryan added that 29 community outpatient clinics will become operational this year, offering a significantly improved standard compared to traditional rural facilities.

She concluded by criticizing the spread of misinformation and emphasized that residents of Meghri clearly remember the condition of the medical center in the past, suggesting that current developments mark substantial progress.
