Two Nighttime Symptoms That May Signal Health Issues, Experts Say

Experts from the UK-based charity Cancer Research UK have highlighted two nighttime symptoms that may require closer attention: insomnia and excessive night sweats.

While these symptoms do not necessarily indicate cancer on their own, specialists emphasize that persistent or unexplained occurrences should not be ignored. Monitoring changes in your health and seeking medical advice when needed is important.

Excessive night sweating is one of the key signs to watch for, especially when a person wakes up drenched without an obvious reason. Unexplained fever may also accompany this symptom. Although these signs can be linked to infections, medications, or hormonal changes, in some cases they may be associated with more serious conditions, including cancers such as lymphoma.

Insomnia is another symptom mentioned by experts. It may appear as difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings during the night, or waking up too early. According to the National Health Service (NHS), sleep disturbances are common and affect a large portion of the population at some point. Causes often include stress, anxiety, or general health conditions. In cancer patients, insomnia may sometimes be related to pain, overall health decline, or side effects of treatment.

Specialists also note that ongoing sleep problems can lead to fatigue, reduced concentration, and irritability. Other potential warning signs to be aware of include chronic fatigue, unexplained bleeding or bruising, persistent pain, unexplained weight loss, and the appearance of lumps.

Experts stress the importance of paying attention to unusual or long-lasting symptoms and consulting a healthcare professional if concerns arise. Early detection plays a key role in improving treatment outcomes and overall prognosis.
