Defense Ministry Denies Claims on Military Health Situation

Armenia’s Ministry of Defense has issued an official statement addressing recent claims made during a media briefing regarding the situation within the armed forces.

According to the ministry, statements suggesting that a soldier died from pneumonia in 2024 and that the issue was discussed during a closed session are inaccurate. Officials clarified that no deaths related to pneumonia were recorded in the armed forces during 2024.

The ministry also noted that, since 2023, vaccination programs and improved early detection and treatment measures have contributed to a steady decline in pneumonia cases. The overall incidence rate has decreased annually by approximately 8–13%, along with a reduction in severe and critical cases.

In addition, comments regarding conscription and mobilization figures were addressed. The ministry emphasized that such data is classified and cannot be publicly disclosed. However, it was stated that the number of conscripts in 2025 has increased by 25.3% compared to 2022.

Officials warned that the spread of inaccurate information may create unnecessary public concern and misrepresent conditions within the armed forces. They also reaffirmed that maintaining proper hygiene standards for service members remains a continuous priority.
